It’s a lot of fun working in an office full of comedians and creatives, but the constant merriment does make it difficult to get any work done when it’s time. What are the various staff-members listening to when we have to shut everyone else out and concentrate? Take a listen and read a few words from each staffer below:

W. Kamau Bell:
“Hurricane Season” by Trombone Shorty
I discovered this song when they used it in our commercials and it’s perfect!

“Pride” by Living Colour
This is a Living Colour song. The guitar Player is Vernon Reid, who wrote the theme song for “Totally Biased.” And I have a podcast with him called “The Field Negro’s Guide to Arts and Culture.”

Hari Kondabolu:
“212″ by Azealia Banks
I love this song even though it’s filthy because it’s also FILTHY. Also, I want to be friends with Azealia Banks. I hope this leads to me being friends with Azealia Banks.

Danny Vermont:
“Lost in the Light” by the Bahamas
A Canadian group. They’re great!

Janine Brito:
“Damn!” by Young Bloodz
I often have to repeat “Don’t Start No Shit, Won’t Be No Shit” to psych myself up.

Kevin Kataoka:
“Yeah Yeah” by Blackrock
Featuring Archie “Hubby” Turner on keyboards (currently in The Bo-Keys). Blackrock made only one 45, but it never fails to blow people away when I play it.

Rachel Linhart:
Senses Working Overtime by XTC
It’s a nice perfect pop song, and Mandy Moore covered it. What more can you ask for?

Alex Thornton:
Birthday Song by 2 Chainz
2 Chainz is my spirit animal. This song makes me feel powerful and confident.

Keri Smith Esguia:
Wait So Long by Trampled By Turtles
This is currently my favorite song to listen to in the morning. Speed bluegrass!

Ian Hamowy:
“Hush” by Deep Purple
Not the whack ’90s VH1 version.

Alex Smelson:
“I Can Dream About You” by Dan Hartman
It gets me elated.

Jeremy Sklar:
“Sugar Man” by Rodriguez
I saw this documentary recently called Searching for Sugarman, that you have to drop everything and go see, about this musician named Rodriguez. To quote Eggars, it’s truly a heartbreaking work of staggering genius.

Suzanne Fagel:
“One Angry Dwarf and 200 Solemn Faces” by Ben Folds Five

Kim Selden:
“Poison” by Bel Biv Devoe
Classic greatness.

Audrey Onyeike:
“17 Inches of Snow” by Joi
Star Kitty aka Tennessee Slim

Chuck Sklar:
“Better Things” by The Kinks

Nato Green:
“The New Fuck You” by The Street Sweeper Social Club
I love this song. Boots Riley has provided the soundtrack to our show…and The Revolution.

Kevin Avery:
“That Power” by Childish Gambino
It’s Donald Glover rhyming about Francois Truffault and some girl who broke his heart on a bus.  Plus, there’s a guy whalin’ on a fiddle in the background.  How do ya not like that song?

Jordan Rock:
“Loud” by Mac Miller
I also identify with Mac Miller. I like my music loud.

Kristine Pregot:
“One Thing” by One Direction
We were editing with this song for weeks & I just can’t seem to get it outta my head!

Tony Faske:
“Default” by Django Django
The album has been out in the UK and is coming out in the States at the end of September. Really interesting sound.

Tiara Francis:
“1991″ by Azealia Banks
Ms. Banks serves up early 90′s house, club kid, ball realness on this track, which always makes me want to vogue in my seat. Plus, she reps for uptown NYC.

Daresha Kyi:
“Hello, Goodbye” by Van Hunt

Ambre Thompson:
“Pop That” by French Montana
I feel like I’m at a party all day long. That’s my hype music.

Myron Tookes:
Stay by Nas
It’s a laid back track that helps me focus on my work.

Dwayne Kennedy:
“No Holding Back” by Graham Parker

Debi Becker:
“All Along the Watchtower” by Jimi Hendrix
Because Kamau and I are both wearing Jimi Hendrix shirts today.
